This piece has to be one of my very favorites. I had begun to visit New England on a regular basis at about the same time that I was able to regularly work in gold and there I enjoyed long walks through the woods alone. Inspired by one of those moments that can easily just slip by you but for some reason you stand up and take notice of something amiss. Walking through the woods, all is silence, just leaves falling, aren’t we all. Footfalls softly crunching leaves underfoot with others above rushing to join the chorus. But maybe some want just another moment, just another day. Then the sun breaks through the chaos with the final word. The word is good, firm and authoritative and…..I’m sorry, where was I? Oh, yeah, this proud piece is comprised of 9.7 grams of multi-colored 14K gold with a 6 mm round garnet of a color which set me in mind of a certain New Hampshire afternoon. This pendant measures 1 1/2 inches at the widest and 2 3/4 inches at the tallest point. Each leaf was originally engraved, chased and repouseed molded and then cast. For, say a maple leaf, I make three different sizes and each size has a bend to the left and a bend to the right, but I get ahead of myself. This was one of the first pieces I made in gold simply for the purpose of expression. It took almost twenty years to sell but then that was beside the point entirely.
